The Spring/Summer Style Edit

THE SPRING/SUMMER STYLE EDIT
What’s new, what’s lovely and what I’d be wearing!
Summer is on its way, and I’ve been keeping my eye on what’s appearing on the fashion scene for Spring/Summer 2027.
There are some lovely trends around this season, a few that might take a little more courage, and others that are simply about having a play with what you already own.
As always, my approach is to take inspiration from the trends rather than feel we need to follow every single one. It’s about finding the elements that suit your personality, work with your wardrobe and make you feel fabulous.
So, here’s what’s caught my eye!
1. The sheer pencil skirt – a little daring! (Sheer skirt from Pinterest)
Sheer fabrics are continuing to make an appearance, and one look we’re seeing is the sheer pencil skirt. It’s feminine, a little edgy and certainly makes a statement.
Now, I have to say, a completely see-through pencil skirt isn’t necessarily top of my list! But I do love the idea of playing with sheer fabrics.
Think sheer overlays, a beautiful lightweight fabric over a slip skirt, or perhaps sheer detailing paired with a simple camisole or tailored jacket. It’s all about balancing the transparency with something a little more structured.
My styling tip: If you’re trying this trend, keep the rest of your outfit relatively simple. Let the sheer detail do the talking.
2. Tassels & Fringe – bring on a little movement! (Tassel bag from Pinterest)
I’m loving the return of tassels and fringe. There’s something wonderfully playful about this detail, whether it’s on a jacket, a skirt, a bag or even an accessory.
It adds texture, movement and a little personality to an outfit without necessarily needing to introduce another colour or print.
You don’t have to go head-to-toe bohemian either. A beautiful fringed bag, a tassel detail on a shoe or a jacket with subtle fringe can be just enough.
My styling tip: Think about using texture to make an outfit more interesting. Sometimes it’s the little details that make all the difference.
3. Colour on colour – don’t be shy! (Colour outfit from Pinterest)
If you love colour, this is a trend to have some fun with!
Wearing one colour with another, or building an outfit around different shades of the same colour, is a wonderful way to create impact. Think pink with red, blue with green, citrus tones together or different shades of beautiful blues.
Colour blocking can look incredibly sophisticated, particularly when you keep the shapes and silhouettes relatively clean.
And remember, colour doesn’t have to mean bright and bold. You can work with softer shades, deeper tones or a combination of both.
My styling tip: Start with two colours you already love and experiment. If you’re a little unsure, introduce your second colour through a handbag, shoe or scarf.
4. Personality prints – let your outfit do the talking! Plus glasses to fit! (Personality Print from Pinterest)
Prints are such a wonderful way to express your personality. Whether it’s an oversized floral, an abstract design, geometric shapes or something a little more unexpected, this is the season to have a play.
One of my favourite ways to wear prints is to pick out a colour within the pattern and use that as the starting point for the rest of your outfit.
And don’t forget, you can mix prints too! Stripes with florals, different scales of pattern or even two prints that share a common colour.
It might sound a little daunting, but once you understand how to balance patterns, it can be so much fun.
My styling tip: If you’re wearing a statement print, try pairing it with a colour pulled from within the pattern. It brings the whole outfit together beautifully.
5. Jeans – the barrel leg is still going strong! (Barrel leg jean from Decjuba)
Good news for those of you who have embraced the barrel-leg jean – they’re still very much on the fashion radar!
The barrel shape has that slightly curved silhouette, creating volume through the leg before tapering towards the ankle. They’re a little different from your traditional straight-leg jean and can look wonderfully contemporary.
The secret is all in the proportions. Because there’s more volume through the leg, think about balancing it with a more fitted top, a tucked-in shirt or a shorter jacket.
You can also dress them up beautifully with a waistcoat, a blazer or a lovely pair of heels.
And please don’t feel that you need to abandon your favourite straight-leg or wide-leg jeans. The best jean is always the one that makes you feel fabulous!
My styling tip: Pay attention to where the jean finishes on your leg and what you’re wearing on top. A little attention to proportion can make all the difference.
6. Kitten heels – a little lift! (Kitten Heel from Pinterest)
I’m delighted to see kitten heels continuing to have their moment.
They offer that lovely little bit of elevation without committing to a high heel, and I think they’re such a versatile addition to a wardrobe.
Pointed toes, slingbacks, delicate straps and interesting details are all lovely ways to introduce them.
They work beautifully with tailored trousers, jeans, dresses and skirts. You can even use them to give a more relaxed outfit a little polish.
My styling tip: Don’t underestimate the power of a shoe to change an outfit. A kitten heel can take your everyday jeans and top combination somewhere quite different.
7. And yes… the Tabi is still here! (Tabi from Pinterest)
Well, if you’ve been wondering whether the Tabi shoe was just a passing moment, it seems it’s still holding its place in fashion.
The distinctive split-toe design continues to appear in different styles, from flats and boots to more elevated footwear.
It’s definitely a statement shoe and one that has its own personality.
Now, you know my thoughts on this one… Eek! Not for me!
But that’s the beauty of personal style. Just because something is fashionable doesn’t mean it needs to find its way into your wardrobe. If you love them, wear them with confidence. If not, there are plenty of other lovely shoe options to explore!
8. Stripes – and be bold with a suit! (Suit by Tuesday The Label)
Stripes are one of those patterns that never really disappear, but I’m particularly loving the idea of taking them a little further.
Rather than just introducing a striped shirt or top, why not consider a striped suit?
A beautifully tailored striped blazer and matching trousers can look incredibly chic. Think relaxed tailoring, a little oversized perhaps, worn with a simple top, a beautiful camisole or even a crisp white shirt.
And don’t automatically think of traditional navy pinstripes. There are so many possibilities when it comes to the scale, direction and colour of stripes.
If a full striped suit feels a little too much, start with a striped blazer paired with your favourite jeans or plain trousers.
My styling tip: Let the stripes be the feature. Keep accessories simple and allow the suit to make the statement.
A final thought…
Fashion should be fun! It’s lovely to take inspiration from what’s happening, but the trick is knowing what works for you.
You don’t need to buy into every trend, change your entire wardrobe or dress like someone else. Sometimes it’s just about introducing one new detail, trying a different colour combination, playing with proportions or wearing something in a way you hadn’t considered before.
This is what I love about personal styling – discovering those little changes that make getting dressed feel exciting again.
So, have a play, be a little adventurous and most importantly, wear what makes you feel fabulous!
Remember, confidence and style have no expiration date.
