In this blog I’m going to share A simple styling trick to elevate any outfit. You can create the illusion of a complex outfit by contrasting two different types of materials together. You can simply elevate your everyday style in an instant by layering. For example try layering a chunky knit over a silk dress, or pair a sheer tulle dress with a leather biker jacket for an unexpected edge.
I really enjoy seeing how brands take unique spins on trends to try and freshen them up a bit, here are 3 looks and my picks for examples of contrasting two different types of materials together :
- Take for example the midi skirts, these have seen somewhat of a rebirth with new silhouettes and designs… just in time for the warm weather! I must say I have been a midi skirt fan for a while. They are perfect for a day out on the town or a day in at work. Now, with the weather getting warmer, you can definitely expect to see a huge push on a lot of different styles of midi skirts. Check out the look in this picture of a cream midi paired down with a denim jacket, again an awesome mix of different materials.
- Another look I just love is this Missoni dress in black with a vintage biker jacket. Pulled off correctly this little bit of vamp/rocker/woman look is very hot. The dressy aspect of the outfit is balanced with the biker jacket, plus makeup and hair is kept simple.
- Paris Fashion Week showed a lot of bubble gum pink on the runways. Think Hubba Bubba! With the super combination of grey with the pink this style blogger has gone for a mature ballet street style look, wearing her Choo’s, a perfect pink pleat and the chunkiest knit pulling together what I call a very cool relaxed street style.
Don’t get too carried away with the whole mixing of fabrics, a great way to start is by not using a mix of bold colours and also remember… only mix two types of materials, you don’t want to confuse your look with too much going on.
Having a Wardrobe audit is a fab way of learning how to mix fabrics, patterns, colours and styles. This is one of my favourite parts of my job. Check out my packages and also what ladies say about their Wardrobe Audits. Going into a new season is also a fab time to find new outfits within your own wardrobe and work out what you need going forward. The first 3 bookings made for a Wardrobe Audit and used by the end of November 2016 will receive a 10% discount. Get booking ladies, I may just find you a brand new summer wardrobe within your own wardrobe… drop me a line.
Until next time, enjoy mixing fabrics – I’d love to see some pics.
